The metals used for our jewelry include bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.
Bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, is naturally nickel-free.
Like silver, bronze is a “living” material that can develop a patina over time due to natural oxidation. Humidity, water, and skin pH levels may accelerate the metal’s oxidation.
Specifically, an acidic skin pH can cause slight oxidation, especially on rings, and may lead to a subtle greenish patina on the skin after prolonged contact. This effect, which can be removed with regular washing, is harmless, non-toxic, and does not indicate an allergic reaction.
Lo Studiolo jewelry is crafted in sterling silver (925 silver), an alloy composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals.
In some cases, our silver jewelry is given a final black patina. This dark finish, which makes each piece unique, is a surface treatment achieved by applying acids that react with the metal surface. Over time and with wear, the patina will gradually fade, especially in areas where friction occurs, revealing the natural silver beneath and creating a captivating chiaroscuro effect.
This natural process should not be seen as a flaw but rather as an evolution that enhances the uniqueness and personal character of each piece from Lo Studiolo.
Gold (18k) and platinum are also used for our most refined creations. These metals are highly durable, resistant to oxidation, and hypoallergenic. While they maintain their natural color and brilliance over time, regular care such as gentle cleaning and proper storage will help preserve their shine.
Lo Studiolo jewels are unique, handmade and require special care to prolong their life and shine. Our jewels are protected with a surface treatment that slows down the natural oxidation of the metal and helps to preserve the shiny and/or patinated appearance of the metal for longer. To ensure that your jewels continue to live at their best and to counteract the natural oxidation process of metals, we suggest the following precautions:
- When not in use, store your jewellery in its case in a dry place.
- We recommend removing your jewelry before washing your hands. If your jewelry comes into contact with water, dry it thoroughly.
- Avoid wearing jewellery where possible when sweating heavily, in particularly humid environments, during the shower or while bathing in the sea or swimming pool.
- Jewelry should be removed before any type of exercise. Sweat can accelerate oxidation.
- avoid contact with hydroalcoholic gel and cosmetic products such as perfumes and creams
The oxidation patina that can deposit over time on bronze or silver jewelry can be removed by rubbing the surface of the metal with a jewelry cloth or using a cream or liquid product specifically designed for silver or bronze. To care for burnished silver jewelry, we recommend not cleaning the patinated part with metal cleaning products as this could ruin the burnish. For those who wish, we will be happy to offer your Lo Studiolo jewelry a deep cleaning, polishing and surface coating treatment.
